We mostly had the kids sleep in the same room with us when they were really little anyway, so we didn't really need to see them by the time they were sleeping in a different room.

We were in a similar situation. It mostly was for if he took a nap or some situation where we weren't also sleeping and we were not 100% confident we could hear him if he woke up.
