So, if anyone followed the Chromebook thread at all you may know that I bought a Chromebook recently in hopes that it would also let me use a remote gaming service I am a fan of using. Unfortunately, it did not work out because the necessary transcoding overwhelms the little budget Chromebook.
Now I have been thinking of how to use two older desktop computers that may actually do the job.
My current thought is the following...
- Load up Linux on the desktop
- Use a remote desktop client that will simply work really well from my Chromebook into the Linux Desktop
- While remoted into the Linux Desktop from my Chromebook access the gaming service
My logic behind it is that hopefully the Chromebook can easily handle a basic remote desktop session and when I remote into the gaming service from the desktop things will just work since in theory the Chromebook shouldn't have to do any of the heavier lifting and that would be happening on the Linux Desktop.
The only concern I have currently is if the Remote client I am using to connect from my Chromebook to the Linux desktop can't properly stream what is being shown on the Linux Desktop into the Streaming service.... well then, it'll all be for not.
