When it comes to novels, I tend towards fantasy. I like a variety of fantasy types (well, though I rarely read many novels now) such as high fantasy adventures and urban fantasy slice-of-lifes. I also like romance, to an extent. I've also liked some more spooky/scary fantasy stories, though I tend to be less interested in those at most times when it comes to novels.
Incidentally, I'm the only person in my family probably that hates reading sci-fi novels. I know my dad loves them. I've tried some of his recommendations, but the only one I could manage to enjoy remotely was one I randomly picked up that he left in the bathroom from his favorite series, which is because the parts I read weren't very sci-fi focused.
